Overview

Construction projects are difficult to keep fully staffed from inception to completion due to staff turnover and the varying demands during the project life cycle. Add to this the uncertainty of change order volume and the result is critical tasks not being completed in a timely manner. Construction Science (CnS) can provide a cost-effective alternative to adding full-time staff. We have the expertise to assist you with a variety of critical tasks on an ad hoc basis.

Contractors specialize for a reason - efficiency. A mechanical contractor could expand its operation to include electrical work. Is one type of work harder than the other? Probably depends on who you are asking. But contractors realize that it is easier and more cost-effective to specialize. The more you do the same thing the better you get. The same is true for consulting. When all you do is prepare construction schedules, time extension requests, and claims you quickly become an expert in those fields. If the lights are not working, call an electrician. Got a scheduling problem, call Construction Science!

Consider also that the vast majority of assignments we complete cost less than one full-time construction professional with 5 to 10 years experience. Yet we bring to the table more than 28 years of experience as well as the necessary specialized knowledge to deal with problems. And when the assignment is over there is no further financial commitment. Our clients only pay for the staff assistance they need and nothing else.

Scheduling in particular can benefit from "rented" expertise. Few construction firms have full-time schedulers and only the largest projects typically have someone who fills this role on a daily basis. As a result, most of the scheduling is performed by individuals who normally work on other tasks. Scheduling is simply not their specialty. On an important project the benefit of having someone on board who has prepared hundreds of schedules may determine whether the project is a success or a failure.
